We're starting to build momentum in our efforts to have Senators Warner and Webb cosponsor legislation to cleanup the Bay. Message * More than 14,000 Virginians (including me) have joined together to stand up to the most dangerous predator in the Chesapeake Bay. Who is this fearsome creature? Try the chicken. A single chicken isn't too fierce. But when 300 million of these cluckers gang together along the Eastern Shore of the Bay, bald eagles, peregrine falcons, ospreys, herons and other waterfowl don't stand a chance. Those 300 million chickens drop about 1 billion pounds of it each year, fouling everyone's nest in the Bay. When rainfall washes the waste into the Bay, algae goes wild, oxygen levels sink, and wildlife suffer. Most summers, up to one-third of the Bay becomes a biological dead zone.
