Act Now for Stronger Building Efficiency
The buildings we live and work in account for almost half our total energy use and pollution, so improving the energy efficiency of our buildings is a key step in moving away from fossil fuels and repowering Virginia's economy with clean energy.
Right now, the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development is accepting comments from the public on proposed code changes that would increase energy efficiency in buildings by nearly 20 percent.

Don't let one senator snatch defeat from the jaws of victory
We’re on the verge of a hard-fought victory for clean air and clean
energy, but Sen. Lisa Murkowski seems determined to stand in the way.
Last May, President Obama decided to improve the nation’s gas mileage
standards and require big cuts in tailpipe emissions of global warming
pollution. Now, with the EPA moving to finalize this new rule by April
1, Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski wants to snatch defeat from the jaws
of victory.
The Senate could vote within days on her Dirty Air
Act, which would, among other things, block the EPA’s new clean car
standards. Sign our petition to the right telling our senators to Vote
No on the Murkowski Dirty Air Act!

independence.
Together with environmental groups across the country, we've pledged
to do our part by gathering thousands of signatures for an online
Declaration of Energy Independence, which we'll deliver to our senators
on Earth Day, April 22.
Global Warming Environment Virginia is running campaigns at the state and national levels to pass strong global warming pollution laws. More.

No Drilling Off Our Coasts
Virginia’s coast is in
jeopardy. Oil companies, with the
help of the previous administration, are one step closer to drilling off our
shores. But we already know drilling off Virginia's coasts would be a drop in the bucket.
Governor Kaine needs to hear your voice. Tell him to stand
up for our oceans and the Chesapeake Bay by speaking against offshore drilling.
Environment Virginia is doing two things right
now to stop drilling off our coasts:
* First, we are working to
restore the drilling moratorium everywhere;
* Second, we are working to expand the country’s use of clean and renewable
electricity and fuels and make cars go farther on a gallon of gas so we don’t
need the little bit of oil we might find off Virginia.
