Our Rivers Lakes and Streams

The Chesapeake Bay. The James. The Potomac. Virginia's rivers, lakes, bays, harbors, estuaries and wetlands are essential to our health, our quality of life and our natural heritage. Under the Clean Water Act, we've made progress in protecting and preserving our waters. Yet new threats, including reckless development and highly toxic chemicals, call for renewed vigilance and action. Environment Virginia opposes any efforts by powerful developers and other polluters to weaken the Clean Water Act. We support efforts, local, state and federal, to ensure clean and safe water supplies for all Americans.

Restoring the Chesapeake Bay

The Bay is our most iconic waterway.  It has fueled our culture and provided for wildlife for centuries.  For years it has been polluted beyond recognition.  Now residents of the Bay must hold polluters and politicians accountable if we want to see improvements in the Bay.  Read more
