Clean Cars Would Slash Oil Use and Pollution this Summer

As Virginians get ready for summer road trips, an Environment Virginia Research & Policy Center report finds that cleaner, more fuel efficient cars would significantly slash oil consumption and global warming pollution across the state. The report, Summer on the Road: Going Farther on a Gallon of Gas, was released as the Obama administration is on the verge of finalizing fuel efficiency and global warming pollution standards for cars and light trucks that achieve a 54.5 mpg standard by 2025.

Energy Efficient Buildings Would Reduce Global Warming Pollution, Save Virginia Families $503.88 Annually

WASHINGTON, DC -- Virginia families could save $503.88 every year on their electricity bills by 2030 if the government invests in the energy efficiency of our buildings today, according to a new report by Environment Virginia.  Saving energy in our buildings would also help fight against global warming, reducing global warming pollution from buildings by 31 percent―the equivalent of taking over 9.2 million cars off the road.

Clean Cars Would Cut Oil Use, Save Virginians Over $6 Million on Thanksgiving Travel

Richmond, VA — As Virginians prepare for one of the busiest travel holidays of the year, and just days after the Obama administration proposed new fuel efficiency standards for cars and trucks, a new Environment Virginia report finds that more fuel efficient cars would make significant cuts in oil use and save Virginians roughly $6.6 million at the gas pump this Thanksgiving alone. The report was released following the Obama administration’s November 16th announcement of proposed new fuel efficiency and global warming pollution standards for cars and light trucks sold from 2017 through 2025.

A Healthy Environment is Key to a Healthy Economy

Washington, DC – President Obama today addressed a joint session of Congress on the subject of job creation. While focused mostly on a job-creating agenda, the President reiterated his support for environmental and health protections including “rules that keep our kids from being exposed to mercury” and challenged the country to be in a “race to the top” when it comes to pollution standards. Green Light Given to Nation's First Offshore Wind Project

Boston, MA - Today Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar and Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick announced the Department of the Interior’s final approval of the Cape Wind offshore wind project off the coast of Massachusetts.  The announcement means that by 2012, Massachusetts residents could be the first in the nation to receive energy from offshore wind power.
