Shenandoah National Park is an essential part of Virginia’s cultural and natural heritage. Although more than 1.5 million Virginians visit the park every year, this popular destination is threatened by underfunding and poor air quality: • Seven of the scenic overlooks along Skyline Drive have been closed for repair; • Poor air quality has significantly reduced the viewshed from atop the many peaks and ridges of the park; and
Underfunding threatens the park The condition of the park is declining—from the more than 500 miles of trails winding through the nearly 200,000 acres of the park, to the 75 scenic overlooks dotting the famous Skyline Drive. But there’s still hope for reversing the park’s current state of disrepair. We're acting now to fully fund the park, calling on our elected officials to preserve this piece of our history for today and tomorrow. |
